New plastic ban legislation in action!

Step one of three in a plan to phase out single use plastics in Aotearoa is now being rolled out.

From 1st October 2022 it became illegal to provide, sell or manufacture the following plastic products in Aotearoa New Zealand:

- Single use plastic drink stirrers

- Single use plastic cotton buds

- Degradable plastics

- Certain PVC food trays and containers

- Polystyrene takeaway food and beverage packaging

- Expanded polystyrene food and beverage packaging

Step two and the next problematic plastics will be phased out around mid 2023.
